Jessi Bryl

Herbalist / Astrologer / Producer

Jessi lives in devoted relationship with the plant world, tending herbs as friends, teachers and kin. For more than three decades she has studied through lived experience, ceremony, song and astrology, listening deeply to what plants reveal when we slow down enough to notice. Rooted in community, circle and daily practice on the land, she invites us into a fuller sense of belonging — to earth, to each other and to ourselves.

Jessi has loved plants since she was very young and has been learning with herbs for more than 35 years. Her education has come through books and teachers, yet mostly through direct relationship with the plants themselves. She grows them, prepares them, ingests them in different forms for months at a time and pays close attention to lived experience. She has undertaken plant fasts, trance and journey work, dream practice and long sits in nature, listening for how each plant wishes to be known.

She does not relate to plants as objects or resources. They are companions and elders. Jessi sees herself as an advocate for the more-than-human world, particularly the plant world, and believes plants are among our greatest healers and teachers when we learn to listen.

An avid herb and food grower and processor, Jessi is also a singer, poet, artist and self-described kitchen witch. She does not approach these as career identities, but as threads of a life lived in devotion.

Before moving to Australia in 2018, Jessi lived off-grid for many years and spent time in intentional community supporting adults with disabilities. She has volunteered in the United States and Africa, taught English at university in Thailand, and worked in roles ranging from bookkeeper and office manager to gardener, farm labourer, construction worker, caregiver and hospitality worker. For more than 15 years she has offered astrological counsel alongside these varied paths.

These days she spends much of her time on the land, fingers in the soil, listening for how to be better kin. She processes food and herbs, sings, prays and meditates, sowing seeds of gratitude and hope for those who will come after us. Since 2022 she has been offering ceremony circles, singing circles and plant wisdom circles in her local community.

Jessi is deeply dedicated to circle work and to showing up as her whole self in each unfolding moment. She may not be your average bear, but she does love honey just like the rest.
